Title: Fire Alarm System for small commercial shop row?
Post by: Haggis on July 27, 2015, 10:12:59 AM
Hi All

Would individual electrical fire alarm system be required to be installed by the landlord for a row of commercial shops (5 individual units in different occupancy) located below a 2 storey block of domestic flats?
The units are to be refurbished and currently have no alarm system. Units are used as bookmakers, small bakery, sweet shop, post office. Each unit is 60m2 and comprise of 2 rooms.

Do the flats have completely independent access from the shops?

What is the construction of the ceiling/floor above the shps and is it in good condition?

The above dwellings have independent access/egress routes and the proposal is to compartment each unit and the above dwellings by a minimum of 60 minutes fire separation.

Then there should not normally be a requirement for a combined fire alarm and detection system.
