I hope that their PI insurance is in order. Mind you, I would not like to be the insurer. Storm damage is risky enough.

What are the views regarding a Fire Brigade setting themselves up this way?

Are you sure?  They have a statutory duty to provide free fire safety advice, so it'll be remarkable if they manage to convince people to pay for it!

Is it not just a play on words. Advisor/Consultant and whose to say they might not be calling themselves consulatnts and foregoing the charge for any services. Further investigation required methinks.

I dont think its a secret. Speak to their engineering department, they will tell you they set it up about a year ago.
They provide imdependent? advice regarding what complies with requirements of the Building Act - in their humble opinion of course.

You sure you are not talking about LAPS schemes.

No Colin,
I know what a LAPS scheme is, deal with them regularly.
This is where LFB, at least their Fire Engineering section, offers third party advice/guidance on fire safety matters on a contractual basis.
Just wondering if others had heard of such an arrangement.
Presumably they wouldnt be able to offer independent advice on any work in their own area?
