Low smoke and fume cables

Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding the use of such cables in fire alarms, like when are they necessary/specifiedn etc.

Dont confuse LSF with fire resistance to maintain circuit integrity. They are completely different issues. It is the latter that is important in emergency circuits. The relevant BS standards cover this.

The only place that I know of where you may come across such requirements is in the London Underground.  They have very strict requirements - LSOH wouldn't be sufficient, on its own.

The offshore industry also can have stringent requirements for low smoke, toxicity etc.

As I imagine so does the maritime sector.
