Title: DSEAR vs CLEAPS
Post by: Collegeboy on October 22, 2021, 12:50:51 PM
Hello People
speaking to the Responsible Person in a private school regards chemicals/gas storage for Science / Biology labs, mentioned about conducting a dsear assessment because of possible explosives/flammables even though stored in proper fashion in minimum quantities, her response was, "Dont need dsear because we deal with our chems under CLEAPS"  ??? not heard of explosive/gas/polars being dealt with under CLEAPS, anybody shed any light on that please as in does compliance with CLEAPS negate dsear  ???

The Consortium of Local Education Authorities for the Provision of Science is an advisory body and does not override legislation - however they provide a range of detailed guidance to schools and it could well be that CLEAPS produces guidance, which if followed, would demonstrate compliance with DSEAR - after all the HSE accept CLEAPS guidance as definitive ways to comply with legislation.

A lot of CLEAPS stuff is restricted access, but it does include documents that cover this subject area, best get a copy from the school and read through it to see if it reassures you.
