The Latin ending  .....um is always singular. Its plural version is ...............a.

These views do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer, but are those of every Latin scholar from Julius Caesar onwards.

colin, i find the saladum (singular) quite superb and i'd like to thank dear old caesar for bringing it to these shores. i wasnt sure that it had managed to get to the northern climes but im sure it is served in todd hall whenever the sun shines through your atrium!

Does that mean that the singular of Flora is Florum? Forgive my ignorance, but I only studied French & German. Now if only I had studied Latin, a subject that would be useful to me in every day life!

Davey, We had the courage to turn him away, same as we did with King Edward. Mr Bored, consultants dont eat margarine, they eat proper butter, so I am unable to assist you in margarine terminology.

Why is it that the people who use this forum (or the fora) to make digs a people always seem to do so anonymously or under pseudonyms?

I would suggest that it is because they are lacking in confidence.  By remaining anonymous they can say what they want without fear of anyone associating their insults with them.

I suspect if guests were not allowed on here, we would get less insults, but also less debate.  I'm all for the free speach even if it comes from anony"mouses".

Fair enough, Chris.

I suppose it does make for more interesting reading, I just feel that if you are going to get personal you should at least be up for getting the same level of insult back - It is hard to be really insulting to an anonymous entity, it becomes impersonally personal
(I know I'm waffling - but it is dinner time)

I agree, people should be allowed to remain anonymous if they want to (some have to because their employers don't want them to post; some want to so that nobody knows when they get things wrong) but I think if you are bold enough to say something potentialy insulting to someone, you should have the courage to say who you are.

At the same time, I just laugh at the people who post snipes at people, they are probably 14 year olds with nothing better to do.
