i'd look into it a little bit closer if i was you. I thought the fire service couldn't discriminate anymore? I'm a Wholetime firefighter and i guy on my recruits course needed the use of glasses (only for reading). You need good eyesight when you join but a year later it doesn't matter? I know the levels are lower to join retained/vols, why not give it a go? Try a station thats short on daytime cover or a very rural area. Not sure if this is any good to you and i wish you all the best.

i know of 2 f/fs who had corrective eye surgery prior to joining the service , they simply neglected to disclose that info during the application process.

I know of one FF who did have a alser eye op.  He did disclose it in the selection process and is now an LF with Cheshire.

So it does happen.  This was around 4 years ago.
