Title: Impact on integrity preformance to glazing which has been painted

We have a few FEDs with Georgian wired glazing - They have been painted over the years, so have multi layers and in some instances non class 0 paint has been used.


Would there be any impact to fire performance? Or is there any test data on this?

In short - yes, on non-insulating glass, it could affect the performance.  If on the non-fire exposed face combustible paint could ignite, and if it stays in place it will insulate the glass, so it can't lose heat as quickly, and this may cause it to melt and fail earlier.  This is performance against the fire test criteria, of course - whether this is a safety issue is a matter of risk assessment.

The other issue is that vision panels are normally put in doors for safety-related reasons (e.g. to avoid collisions), so painting them over may have non-fire safety related H&S consequences.
