Competence standards for testing fire dampers in ducts
« on: February 18, 2009, 07:10:33 PM »
A Mechanical and electrical engineering company has asked me for advice- they are tendering for a whole building maintenance contract and part of the work involves the maintenance and testing of fire dampers in HVAC ductwork. They are asking whether there is a  recognised competence standard for this type of work?

Personally I dont know but I am sure there is someone here who does! So far I have pointed them towards BS9999, BS5588 part 9, the ADB, the LPC design guide, and the ASFP guide to design and installation.

Can anyone add any meat to the bones please?

Just a long shot, but maybe an enquiry with HVCA (Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association) may help.

They publish various trade standards such as TR19 for use when cleaning/servicing kitchen ducting, so hopefully will point you towards the relevant standard for dampers.
