SOF and premature collapse
« on: November 20, 2021, 08:13:07 AM »
The IET were persuaded to introduce a regulation into BS7671 17th Ediition that required cables in escape routes to be secured against premature collapse in a fire. To be fair, the requirement is now fairly well embedded in the industry and compliance is high, at least for new installations. The purpose was to protect firefighters.
Yet entertainment venues are bedecked with all kinds of things hanging dubiously from ceilings and walls. I noted full LABC  approval for a nightclub that has curtains secured to the ceilings by string. The only requirement being that the fabric had an appropriate fire resistance. No mention of same on FRA.
