So it is important that people don't go there in a fire.

We were told that a 'No fire exit' sign could be misread in the confusion and haste to escape or that the 'No' part might be obscured at the time.

Whilst sign 2 looks interesting, when necessary I have tended to like the standard image with the large raised hand (usually indicating 'no admittance' or 'no unauthorised access') with an appropriate text something like 'No way out'.
