Street Hydrants

Can anybody point me at the standard for locating street hydrants.

If we have a building which is too far from the street to use the exisiting hydrants, how many should I provide on my site and where should they go.

BS5306-1 gives advice on external hydrant location, but it would be worth talking to the 'Water Officer' of your local fire and rescue service to establish their views.  Remember that the fire and rescue service have no authority to make you install private hydrants, but your insurer may also have something to say on the subject.
(all the stuff I said above is purely my own personal view and in no way represents any official view of my employer)
