Intumescent strips - operating temperatures??

Although I expect different products will give different results, can anyone give me an indication of the temperature range an average intumescent strip (around door) will operate at?

I have tried searching on line but with little success

I have been dividing my time between attempting to fix IT problems, working and holidays (including north of the border, as I thought I have contributed so much in taxes to subsidise the Scots, I'll have a look at what they're doing with it).

You'll be pleased to hear that I have taken your advice and have managed to successfully stay away from burning buildings: I leave that for the young uns. But I am more than happy to go in when the fire is out (as long as it's not too dirty!)

Operating temperature depends upon the type of strip - some operate at relatively low temperature (around 140C or so), some need higher temperatures (200C plus).  The seal companies choose their characteristics according to the end application.

Do remember that the operating temp for the strip is the temp for the strip itself, not the gas temperature in the room.

It could be much hotter in the fire room before the temperatue of the edge of a door gets to 200.

Also remember that the fire in the room will not be aware of BS 476. Temperature and pressure growth rates and distribution can be quite different from the standard test.
