Title: Fire tragedy in Bucharest
Post by: kurnal on October 31, 2015, 06:50:38 AM
According to the BBC news website 27 have died and 155 injured following a fire in the collective nightclub, a former factory building.

The fire is believed to have been caused by fireworks that were let off inside the club.
"The only information we have is that fireworks were used in the club and after that the tragedy happened. Of course, this is under investigation," Mr Arafat, head of the emergency response teams, told the BBC.
The pyrotechnics were reportedly part of a show by a heavy metal band.
Witnesses said a spark on the stage ignited some of the polystyrene decor. A pillar and the club's ceiling caught fire and there was an explosion and heavy smoke, they added.
"People were fainting, they were fainting from the smoke. It was total chaos, people were trampling on each other," Victor Ionescu, who was at the club, told local TV station Antena 3.

Local journalist Sorin Bogdan told the BBC the club was in a converted former factory with two small exit doors, only one of which was possible to open initially.
A witness quoted by Romania's state news agency said terrified concert-goers had to break the second door down to escape.
Many of those being treated in hospital were suffering from smoke inhalation and severe burns, Mr Arafat said.

Agreed!

So reminiscent of the Station Nightclub fire in the US. So many similarities!

There appear to be So many parallels with other disasters why do people never learn?

Because:

a) It will never happen to them
b) It is in a different country and our laws are better than anyone else's
c) All this red tape is stiffling the economy and entropeneurs would be able to do far more if they didn't have it.

Finally " There are only two things which are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe"

Mike - Its also worth remembering the recent nightclub deaths in Northampton - thank goodness there wasn't fire involved in this or the death toll would certainly have been higher.

Just to let you know that considerable improvements have been made to many similar niteclubs in Bucharest. Many were closed for long periods until extensive structural alterations were made and fire safety brought to a very much higher standard. My daughter lives in Bucharest and she tells me that there was a root and branch clear out of local government following the tragedy. It was quite well known that a few lei in the right direction would have got permission for any old dump to open its doors to young clubers!

They should never have shot ole Nicholai and his misses live on Xmas day television, though I imagine it was more entertaining than the Queen's speech.

Actually, Colin, the execution was not filmed. The before and after bits were with the excuse by the cameraman that it was all too quick. This gave rise to theories that the couple were spirited away by less supernatural means. The bodies were recently exhumed to check identity. Must go google to see if it was indeed Nick and his missus!

Cameraman cant have been superman then, cos he is faster than a speeding bullet.  Let me know if it was Nick and Her Indoorski as I didn't know there was some doubt, and I love conspiracy theories.

I hear from good authority that Elvis is giving them sing lessons in a double decker bus on the moon.

Acoustics on a double decker bus would be awful, so it cant be true.

Wrong! The bus inner walls and ceiling linings had bee upgraded to provide a very high classification of surface spread of sound. I've seen it

But then people are great absorbers of sound, so would the acoustics not be as inconsistent as enforcement of fire safety legislation in London, according to whether the bus was empty or full.

Strike the last assertion-nothing could be as inconsistent as enforcement in London.

Strike the last assertion, I was once in a relationship with a lady whose moods were as inconsistent as enforcement of fire safety legislation in London.
