Hi all.
Not sure where to put this query.
Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding the storage of ionising detectors?
The company that I work for are looking to store and distribute these; the expected storage quantity will be over 1000.
Thanks
Andy

We had stored 1000s of these in a normal internal storeroom during the detectors in the home campaign without any problem. What sort of problem do you envisage?

The radioactive substances (smoke detectors) exemption order 1980 as amended.
Do we need to do anything as the exemption is only for 500 in any one building

Just goes to show that Fire Brigades don't take any notice of legislation.

Store them in one. Who is going to find out?
"Just goes to show that Fire Brigades don't take any notice of legislation."
We found that out in M-in-M did we not?
Mind you the last F&RS building I worked in would have been issued with a notice if it had been anyone else. But notices can be expensive so they only apply to the private sector.

As a matter of interest my FRS CS section changed to holding optical domestic smoke alarms for exactly this reason several years ago.

I have had a reply from the manufactuer.
We will require a licence should there be more than 500 in the building.

And obtaining licence is more complex/££ than in past, partly because of security situation;
limit is 100 ion alarms in N Ireland.
