Can anybody tell me the what the minimum dB readings can be in an area with fire alarm sounders, I know the actuall sounder must comply to a minimum standard but is there such a level for the surrounding area? Thank you for your help.

In most areas you want the sound pressure level to be 65dB(A), but there are a few exceptions where 60dB(A) is OK such as stairways, specific points and areas less than 60m2.

Where there is background noise or where people sleep there are other recommendations.
