Are you referring to CO Patches or electronic alarms.
Former just change colour, but Coroners find helpful.

Fran
Shropshire FRS is at the planning stage of this. We have an agreement in Telford whereby landlords are fitting them in rented accom. The trouble is of course that these are not cheap and although we have a budget for smoke detectors, this is not the cae for CO detection.
We are considering making a oxygen deficiency check part of our home fire/safety risk assessmnsts.
Mike

PS
When are we going to get a spell checkre here?!

mr todd, it would provide better entertainment for the millions of our readers if you would let me encourage contributions, whether from the pockets of the capitalist employers or posters to this forum!

Its interesting that a Fire Service is getting involved in something which has nothing to do with fire safety. Unless you consider that unsafe "fires" often produce CO.

I havent got a problem with this but shouldn the gas companies be dealing with this?

I agree with wee Brian

It seems strange that some FRS's are willing to get involved in CO detection when others (as a result of IRMPs) are now not attending calls to gas leaks, even within properties, as the argument is that it's a Transco issue & not ours.

 I must stress, having attended a very fortunate incident where a family of 6 collapsed 1 by 1 due to CO poisioning, but survived as the teenage daughter acted quickly and phoned the FRS-  I support any action that FRS can be involved in to prevent this sort of incident (including actuallyresponding to 999 gas leak calls)

Brian, CO gas detectors are not suitable as fire detectors, so it can only be CO per se, as a toxic gas, agaisnt which protection is being given.

There is nothing strange in any of this. The FRS do not get involved in Community Fire Safety (this section has a very outdated name) but do involve themselves in Community Safety. Saving lives is not only about saving life from fire.

This is the real world, wake up and smell the coffee.

For example a FRA HAS to ensure their Community Safety initiatives are:

-reducing the number and severity of fires, road traffic accidents and other emergency incidents occurring in the area for which it is responsible;
-reducing the severity of injuries in fires, road traffic accidents and other emergency incidents;

Other emergenciy incidents has a very wide brush coverage!
My posts reflect my personal views and beliefs and not those of my employer. If I offend anyone it is usually unintentional, please be kind. If it is intentional I guess it will be clear!

Well as I understand it the most comon causes of accidental death in the home are;

Falling down stairs.
Taking the wrong medicin.
Drowning in the bath.

What are FRAs doing about these issues. or is it just that CO detectors are a bit like smoke alarms so you thought you would dish a few out?
