Can you help? Looking to join RAF Fire Service
« on: February 02, 2006, 04:55:48 PM »
Hi

I have my RAF Specialist Interview at MOD FS CTE, RAF Manston next week and was wondering if anyone has gone though this testing and can offer any advice or inside knowledge on how to best preform. Also if anyone knows what the "Informal Interview" will invole I would be very thankful of some advice as I have no idea what to expect.

Many Thanks

David

hi i am a firefighter with the mod fire service, i dont know what you'll be asked at interview, but the test that i saw RAF guys do when i was there last year were,

* hose running to test endurence and determination
*ladder climb and leg lock to test confidence with working at height.
*confined space cages to test that you are cofident working in dark restrictive environments.

Im sure ther are other tests aswell but unfortunately that is all i saw the RAF applicants doing when i was down there on my basic course.

My advice would be to maintain your fitness as best you can and visit your nearest fire station where you live and see if they can give you some further advice as most entry tests are now starting to conform to one set standard.

Hope this helps!

I've been a RAF firefighter for 7 years, so it's been a while since I did my PRS. But I think the young lads that's just come from the school, had to do a ladder test which involved hanging upside down from a ladder. The bleep test, which if you can do level 10 you won't have any problems. Wire a plug and take some notes.
As for the interview I wouldn't worry about it, unless you're a complete biff, they'll take you in no problems as we're all on our arse for man-power.

Hope this helps and good luck
