Acer Laptop/Charger

(1/1)

Peter:
Is anyone aware of any recent issues/history of ACER Laptops being identified as cause of fire whilst charging?

jayjay:
Laptop battery fires were an issue some time ago prompting a recall not seen anything recently

Peter:
JayJay, Thanks - I found a link to a product recall a few years ago - I am aware of a recent incident (don't know the details) in the North West, I believe the insurers will be  following the issue up as the result was a fully smoke damaged house.

SamFIRT:
I think you will find the recall you are speaking of was for Dell laptops.

However, all lithium polymer batteries are susceptible to ignition; especially if they have received a shock. Batteries in laptops will vary from nickel cadmium (for older ones) to lithium oxide to lithium polymer.

They need to be charged at the correct current (with the correct charger) and not be damaged.

Dinnertime Dave:

I am aware of this fire that occured earlier in the year -

does not say the make or model of the laptop though
