Title: Search and Rescue volunteer
Post by: Canadian on June 16, 2005, 10:27:09 PM
Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible for a volunteer to join a search and rescue team in/around London?  I just moved here from Canada, where I was part of a volunteer emergency response/SAR team.  We worked closely with the police to help locate missing people but also to help with any sort of emergency like floods, etc.  I am trying to join a similar team in London but having a hard time finding one.  Any suggestions?  Thanks,

Veronica

The Red Cross do some tasks that you might enjoy.  If you write to them they will tell you more.  Although not search and rescuse stuff, more first aid and councilling and cover for the ambulance service.

Thr Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) operate a number of small rescue craft along the Thames. I understand many (maybe all) are crewed by volunteers and are fairly busy as there is no alternative rescue service away from the central London area.

Suggest you look at their website
Good luck

Try www.resart.org. Initial download is slow but stick with it.
