Injury to user of MCP
« on: November 05, 2008, 04:37:01 PM »
On a project that I am currently completing there is an area that has I.S. MCP's.I have been sent units that have non-laminated glass and require the button to be pressed to activate after glass is broken.
I have bounced these back for two reasons -
(i) That as they have non-laminated glass it is necessary to have means of breaking the glass near by (ie - "toffee hammer" on a chain). However,as these hammers are attractive to "magpies" and that all the rest of the glasses on the premises are standard KAC type there is a risk of injury to the operator (as detailed in part 11 of 5839)
(ii) They require two action to activate (break glass then push button) so vary from the recommendation of part 1.

Am I just being picky here?

What about the new make MCPs, there is no thing to break, the glass in fact is a plastic which can be used for even ten years, just by pressing on it, it releases the 'release button' to make activation... ect

Just make sure that they are not specific to food prep areas because of the contamination risk.
