Fire resistance of Lathe & Plaster

(1/1)

@ignisprime:
Can anyone tell me the fire resistance of Lathe & Plaster?  I believe it 20-25 mins

And has anyone got a suggestion for increasing the resistance time to 60 mins.

Seetek:
You will find basic info in guidance such as LACORs or the LGA PBBFs guide, however, a simple search engine would be where to start. Tip: try here https://www.siniat.co.uk.

AnthonyB:
From the LGA Guide "Traditionally, the combination of a lath and plaster ceiling below a timber floor was only considered to provide a notional 30 minutes fire resistance. In reality, the performance of lath and plaster is highly variable, given that the thickness of the plaster is not uniform"

Lots of Councils (& some fire services) used to provide upgrading advice, although some of is not in line with current thoughts (sometimes required lesser layers and thicknesses of board than you would now expect. The British Gypsum White Book can advise on what sorts of ceiling system will afford suitable protection https://www.british-gypsum.com/specification/white-book-specification-selector
