Hello,

This is my first post so please be gentle on me.

I am trying to find regulations regarding school fire regulations when it comes to paint. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

If you are just decorating existing surfaces there are usually few special requirements.

If its a means of escape corridor with doors and skirting boards conventional gloss paints will be fine. Use emulsion for the walls and ceilings. In rooms if you have any substantial areas of timber boarding, say on walls or ceiling more than 20% of the floor  area then you will need fire retardant paint to maintain a maximum surace spread of flame rating of class 1.

Beware of conventonal gloss paints on walls in escape routes as these can become flaky over the years and this may promote propagation of fire across the layers.
