Title: Non-Fire fighter seeking some information
Post by: flamingmad on May 27, 2006, 02:52:26 AM
Hi there!

From what I understand all UK Fire fighters receive basic first aid training as part of there induction in to the service. However I am also aware that most brigades also offer extended medical training and I am posting to ask if this additional medical training contributes in anyway to 'career points'- not sure of the term. Ive tried to get my head around the IDPS and career structure etc but I havent managed to find anything in terms of what things/ extra training can contribute to salary enhancment (other than promotion) or 'career' points- if indeed at all.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Lisa

PS think you guys/girls do a great job

Hi, i've just finished my basic training for north yorks retained yesterday.
the basic first aid they do on the course for retained is breif to say the least.
I'll try and help you trhe best i can.
I'm not sure if you're asking about retained or whole time.
The extra training you do is trauma response and first aid at work.
You have to do a set amount of training and courses before you get full pay thats your ipds.

So if I were to try and ascertain whether a brigade has incentives for its fire fighters in terms of couting towards pay/ career how would i go about asking it?
e.g is extended medical training part of a fire fighters IPDS?

Is your salary based on whether you have achieved certain skills. For example if you are paid £x a year, can you get an additional amount of money  if you have completed extended medical skills?
