I am confused by table 1 on page 55 of the new guide to sleeping accommodation. What is the difference between a grade A LD2 system under part 6 and an L2 system under part 1?
Heres an extract from the key to the table:
"Grade A LD2 an automatic fire detection system (designed for dwellings and based on a BS 5839-1
system) with detectors sited in escape routes (including rooms that open on to escape routes)
and in rooms or areas that present a high fire risk to occupants, detailed in BS 5839-6"
I think its the grade A bit that introduces the confusion. ( or just me being thick). I am quite happy with the concept of Part 6 systems lower grade systems based on linked detectors and even simple panels but when we get to A grade stuff with panels needing to comply with BSEN54 then why do we need this category?

Special K,
Is it quite simply that they don't want to direct someone who has purchased Part 6 to find out what they need in a 'dwelling' to then also have to buy Part 1 to find out what is specifically required?
-
Grade A systems are for houses over a certain size.
Part 6 LD2 is escape routes and other areas of high risk.
-
But why have they created grade A in part 6 instead of just recommending a Part 1 L2 system for houses over a certain size?
Wizzibix- you may have a point but it would be a first if the BSI wanted to save someone buying another of their documents. hey I hope we aint creating another wacky thread- it could turn into a a long cereal again...

Simple Part 6 = dwellings because CT wrote it that way and Part 1 =commercial premises. They may be the same but never the twain shall meet.

becuase there are a few differences regards audible alarms, alerting deaf persons, manual call points and radio systems.

Krispie,
I agree with the postings of jokar and GM that indicate that the slight differences in the Recommendations comes down to the overall consideration of typical requirements between a 'domestic' and a 'commercial' type premises. It's all a bit of a porridge and often makes me want to destroy my copy of 5839 in the shreddies.

Thanks Graeme - I will have to have a good read and spot the differences. Just goes to show I dont know oat about it.
Alpen another email when I have digested all the implications.
The trouble is Jokar that the two do meet in the key to the table in the guide. And whilst I accept Greames point I still dont really know whether on completion I would have installed a part 6 system to a part 1 standard or a part 1 system to part 6 standard. What would the commissioning certificate say?

just quickly as i am going out
an examle of difference with mcp's is P6 does not require them in certain circumstances.
