Title: Smoke calculations
Post by: dougie on November 06, 2006, 09:57:17 AM
Does anyone possess or know where to get a spreadsheet for the smoke calculations within BS7346-4: 2003? I'd be very grateful for these.

Does anyone know the regulations regaurding hose reels still left on site and are not servicable even though they have been replaced with extinguishers, i think they should be removed people may panic and reach for them over an extinguisher. Does any one know the precise regulation if any relating to this. Thanks Mike

There is no specific 'regulation' per se, but in locations where the client cannot afford to remove the reels (say until a refurb) we say to box them in (easy still with rels in recessed cabinets or auto reels that feed through a small flap in the wall). Failing this we require them to be signed or tye-tagged 'do not use' or similar using signs or tags that use colours and symbols as per the safety signs regs

Dougie,
To get back to your query, have you looked at www.bre.co.uk at all? Howard Morgan and others produced a lot of information on smoke calculations, and I recollect when I left BRE ten years ago they had or were about to produce some computer software to assist people with these calculations.

Attention Moderator-

Could you please split the topics so the hose reel & smoke calulation ones are seperate?
