Hi Guys has anyone had any experience of any self contained hold open devices (not Dorgard) for fire doors. I am searching for some alternatives and I have contacted Geofire who do one via a radio link, anyone any experince of thator others that they can share with me?
many thanks

The most common hold open devices I see is are 9L water extinguishers. Works wonders. In the event of a fire someone will pick it up and go put the fire out, allowing the door to close in the process.... All risk assessed of course.
(Just kidding, before anyone jumps down my throat.)

Have you looked at Swingfree devices?
They are self closers that will actuate when the fire alarm operates.

is wire free your preference?

Try http://www.holdfire.com/ and see if it is what you are looking for if so I can give you a direct telephone to the office.

First timer.
Swing free devices are linked to the alarm system and under an alarm activation will operate as a standard self closering device.
So during normal operation the door will freely open and stay open, we are installing one on the bedroom door of a wheel bound resident. (Student accommodation).

"Wheelchair user" is the recognised term -

wee Brian,
many thanks, learn something new everyday!

Vunerable person is a better term. Door openings are not only for wheelchair users, what about expectant mothers with pushchairs or non ambulant people.
