Title: UPVC Fire Doors?

I have just done a FRA for a client. A couple of doors were UPVC and had 'Fire doors keep closed' signs on them. I know of no such thing as a fire resistant UPVC door, however, before I condemn I want to get my facts straight.

Does anyone know if there has been or is a fire door manufactured in UPVC?

I've come accross timber fire doors that have been faced with UPVC. I am sure that UPVC on its own wont do it .

Thanks for the link Mr.P. I have a problem with UPVC being able to withstand the temperatures of a fire. I think the proberbility is that these are fire doors of conventional construction with a UPVC face.

Isn't that what Mr P's website company are selling?

"All the doors have high density particle board cores and Meranti hardwood inner frame"

I have to say that if I came across these doors, unless an external final exit door, I'd be asking for evidence that it is a 30 minute door.

I've had some dealings with UPVC fascia borads and that had a class 1 surface spread of flame rating which was verified by the manufacturers.

It does say that the doors have been tested by Chiltern to the relevant standard. If so accreditation must be avialable.

Have also seen many properties with  upvc cladding and the certs have indicated a class 1 SSoF.  But this has been for external facia's.  Not sure I'd like to come across upvc internally either though.

Ashley - I ran this question past a colleague of mine who is from the plastics industry and he got the following reply from one of his members:

On the issue of PVCu fire resistant doors, I can confirm that we offer the RAUFERNO fire door solution.  The product is made up of our standard 70mm outerframe lined with Intumescent strips and hung with a fire rated panel.
