Hi
I am interested in a career as an Aiport Firefighter but can't seem to find much information on careers and how to get into it etc.
If there is anyone with any info, websites etc i would be extremely grateful.
Thanks

Hi
Im just about to start my training as an airport firefighter. I had alook at www.iftc.co.uk and www.fireservice.co.uk. The position i went for was advertised in the local paper, as it was a new airport they advertised for 8 firefighters. I think most of the jobs for the larger airports are advertised on the BAA site. My airport is Cat3 so means as well as firefighting we cut the grass, baggage handling etc. The higher the catergory the less other duties you do.
Hope this helps

Alba - very interesting - which airport have you been recruited for ? I know that Robin Hood at Doncaster were recruiting but I think that is a cat 8.

I was recruited for Oban Airport, in Scotland. Most of the guys going with me all have retained or wholetime experience. I guess i was in the right place at the right time. I must have done well in the interview as i was offered the position the following day subject to references and security checks.
Looking forward to it. The www.ift.co.uk has lots of stuff that you can look up before you go on the course.
