Hi ive recently applied for a wholetime firefighter position. I was successful in all of the stages (had the interview in december) but had been told that I was put on a reserve list until october when a training course should become available.However I have one concern reguarding the medical about 2 years ago I dislocated my shoulders I have no pain in them but the joint does crack and pop alot I know that the medicalis very strict and am worried if this cracking will stop me getting in.does anybody have any information about the medical and am i right to be concerned.

ok thanks alot was just worried bout it Iam really happy got this far would hate to fail at the final part

Just one more question how do they determine that it doesnt affect my work.It really doesnt cause me any pain but the joint does make a lot of noise.Would the doctor just take my word for it

Hi Phily

And congratulations for getting this far in the recruitment stage - its very hard to get in these days.

I recently got in with a history of sciatica (a back condition) and scoliosis (another back condition)

Generally speaking I don't see as your shoulder will be a problem. I think most Brigades will pass you so long as your condition is something that can be put right - i.e; a mechanical problem whereby physio could rectify your problem if ever required.

Its viruses and illness or conditions which cant be put right or that would permanatly affect your ability to work which may make them fail a potential recruit.

Hi folks can any 1 please tell what is emtailed ant a medical for the northern ireland fire service i asked this question yesterday and got a reply from compulsor but i not sure what i have done this is my first time on this forum but i can not get back to his answer i think i have  unsubcribed to the topic and not sure how to get back to it any help and advice would be great. or has any recently done or passed a medical for the nifrs get in touch.
