Hello everyone.
Does anyone know if there has been a determination of a Building Regs application, where the use of sprinklers was justified in lieu of a protected staircase in a 3-storey house or in a loft conversion?
I have studied a few determinations but they were 'Rejected'.
I have contacted Tom Sutton and he suggested I try this forum.
Several years ago I attended a seminar given by the Sprinkler Assoc. and one of the speakers said there were potential problems with the use of sprinklers when used in open plan dwellings. I don't have any more details and have already spent hours of fruitless research on this topic.
If anyone can help or at least point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
Yours, in anticipation, Jim.

Most of the determinations were rejected because of minor problems with the spec. There is one that was given the OK. These only apply to loft conversions not new houses.
Saying that the whole thing has changed in the New AD B. There is an approach for loft conversions that includes the use of sprinklers.
