Title: Inter Brigade transfer interview......... Anyone had one recently
Post by: geordie878 on January 29, 2007, 02:25:11 PM
I am after some information from members of the site, maybe the new applicants can help out with this one. I have an interview to transfer from my current brigade to West Midlands Fire Service. The interview will be based on the current PQA's for the role of firefighter. As I have been in the job over 10 years I am a bit alien to this PQA style interview.
Anyone transfered recently?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers.

Hi Geordie,
I recently transferred brigades and had a PQA interview as part of the process.  The thing to do is look at the promotion ADC PQA's and recruitment PQA's, think about what they are looking for and try to apply these PQA's to situations that you have been involved with.  The PQA's don't only refer to Fire Service situations so don't be shy about mentioning other things that cover the requirements.  I had a particular question about dealing with information and related it to a serious medical condition that my son had at that time, on the subject of diversity, I related to my step daughters disabilities and flew through the interview.

Best of luck
Kaiser

one more thing, if they ask you a question and you don't have an example of a situation they are looking for, try to relate to situations that others have been in and you were aware of, explain how you think things were done well or not so well and how you think they should be handled (always relating to the PQA's of course)

In addition to all of this, don't just answer the question, give a little bit more info if you can.  If you do something well, explain that it went well and also the consequences of your actions in a positive light.

Geordie,

In my interview i had for transfer from Oxfordshire to Royal Berkshire the interview was split pretty much 50/50 between PQA and Ops.
I also was asked about RBFRS's current IRMP.
Hope the interview goes well.

Best of luck

I was also asked things about the brigade which was available on the brigade website, stuff like recent reports on the brigade, issues concerning the brigade in the future, IRMP etc.
I was also asked about what high risks were in the area too and didn't have a clue but managed to blag my way through saying that there was an international airport in the area, several major industrial premises and lots of major hospitals (even though I didn't name one of them)

Had interview yesterday morning, think it went ok. Like you said kiaser it was all pqa stuff then a bit of ops. Not sure how I did so just got to wait for a letter.
Cheers for the advise mate, had a look at their IRMP after your post and that did help in the interview so cheers for that.
