Title: Heat Detectors?
Post by: Mark on May 26, 2004, 02:45:51 PM: I am looking into the pro's and con's of domestic heat detectors. As heat detectors do not function until a high temperature & fire is underway (please correct me if I'm wrong) & growing exponentially, are heat detectors classified as a fire prevention (warning) device in a similar way to a smoke detector.

It appears one activates where there's fire whilst the other's domain is in smoke. Is the only benefit of heat detectors being in reducing false trips?

There is so much information "out there" on this subject it's difficult to know where to start, and I know there will be many others who can point you in a better direction than me.

You could look at the BS5839 range of documents to give you an overview on the subject - but it depends how "deep" you want to go!

I would also suggest that you post your enquiry on the Fire Safety pages as not everyone reads all the various categories.

Post by: Mark on June 14, 2004, 06:20:51 PM: Thanks for the tip Colin. My main reasoning is because of the interlinking of smoke/heat detectors. I could not think what the advantage would be of warning you of a fire! But it is much clearer now, sound insulation, early warning etc, which I agree.

We have developed a hard wired interlinked hard wired smoke detector system for domestic property. Would you like to see it?

I can demonstate it in any building at anytime, all I need to do is plug it into your mains. It is also cost effective and therefore targetted at those vulnerable groups.

Although we are a young company, we have quite a few patented products and have been active with the views of many in the industry........including yourself !! We just have to convince the early adopters and experts in their related fields.
