I heard a superb rumour today and it has picked my mood up no end
There are a few brigades out there that may have seen sense at last. The crew & Watch manager fiasco maybe about to be reversed. The titles will stay but the rank markings could go back to how they once were! A CM will wear Lf bar a WM will wear Sub O Bars, helmets will go back to being yellow.
There are still a few brigades that haven't changed yet and don't want too. I hear the DFS isn't going down that road at all, other than the CM & WM titles.
With most Ffs not having the first clue what 'Role' is what, and who does what above WM this would make sense.

Nothing would surprise me anymore!!

Im confused
Some brigades call there people Watch Commanders and Crew Commanders rather than "managers" is it just a regional difference?

Rather proves the saying "if it ain't broke , don't fix it" doesn't it?

I think it depends on how far down the 'evolution' road your service is.We have been through the 'crew/watch' commander phase and are now at 'crew/watch manager etc (all the way up until 'deputy chief/chief)-apparently calling them 'brigade managers' would confuse the public! We have also changed our helmets, but we have been a front runner before in purchasing lots of P.P.E. just to change back to original standard.

I personaly hope it does change back and for good. Then perhaps we can get on with some real modernisation like, better equipment, better PPE, the best vehicle for the job not the cheapest! Etc... etc....
Leave the shifts as they were as there was no need for change there and leave the job descriptions alone! It drives me mad!

Is the role of 'Crew Manager', not a post within McDonalds?
-
Yes your right! It would apear that McDonalds train some of the new 'Managers' that are out there having worked with a few. Although I might be wrong.
Some might say that Mcdonalds have more effective managers? There cant be to many organisations (like the modern fire service) that reward incompetence, piffle & waffle.

Bring it on! I work a Stn that borders on Herts and London and in those quiet moments at shouts my awful Yellow and White Fire Helmet is often the subject of much amusment to my neighbouring services crews.
I concede a little schizophrenia but dont need a helmet that is.
