I am hoping that you will be able to point me in the direction of a plain english version or interpretaion of the RRFSO. I am currently assisting our local hospice in undertaking fire risk assessments on their shops and would like the health & safety rep to have a simplified version of the order and its sections. Its hard enouigh for experianced personnel to understand legislation and dawnting for most others.
I know there are the guides on DCLG but I am hoping that the kind soles on here may know of some better ones. Thanks

Hi,
The guides on the DCLG web ARE the simple ones. The were designed with the lay person in mind. The 'short guide to making your premises safe from fire', also on the web site, is about as simple as you can get. (It even got the plain english award, although I know that they actually made it less understandable!!)
For explanation of the Order, the best I can offer is the Guidance for Enforcers, also promised by the DCLG...but not until September.

Hi Colonel,
I've just read in this months Fire Prevention, Fire Engineering Journal that a companion guide for the RRO has been published which may help:
The New Fire Safety Legislation 2006: A Practical Guide is available at £39.95 ISBN 1842 1930 99

Save yourself a few quid and just get a copy of the Order.
