While visiting a supermarket recently, I noticed that not only was it protected by the usual FA system with detectors against fire, but had a 'fogging' system to protect against theft when the store is closed.
In one place there was a fogging nozzle six inches (150mm) away from a detector. I know little about these anti-theft systems, but wondered if there was any interlocking between them and the FA system so that if the fogging system operates the FA is not triggered by detectors operating. Or does the operation of the fogging system also call out the FRS via the FA system as well as the police? I'd be grateful for some enlightenment.

we went through issues surrounding smoke cloak before - it must be on the site somewhere.

Interesting one. In theory the smoke cloak system won't be going off very often, perhaps heat detection should be provided in the area of operation?

or CO detectors

Wee brian, thanks for the cross-reference; the last bit of correspondence was while I was away in June which is why it hadn't fully registered with me.
Graeme - even ten years after the end of my 28years in fire research, I find my eyes still automatically pick out AFAs, sprinklers, MoE etc. And I have no hesitation in pointing out any obstruction to MoE I come across!
