Has anyone out there had involvement with installation of helipads on roofs of trauma hospitals? If so I would greatly appreciate a chat with you in the near future. Thanks in advance Will  E-mail : csad1@dorsetfire.gov.uk

I suggest you approach London HEMS who operate from the roof of major UK hospital (Royal London) http://www.bartsandthelondon.org.uk/ourservices/helicopter_medical_emergency_service_hems.asp

I note they have a permanent team of fire fighters, the usual water supply to fixed monitors & wheeled AFFF and Powder extinguishers, plus CO2 trolleys with heli-lances for start up fires.

The new Derby City Hospital has a helipad on the roof of the operating theatres -I am sure the good guys of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue would be happy to discuss- their fire safety HQ is on 01773 837200

				Hi Will,

I was Senior Helideck Fire Officer and HLO at HEMS London from 1992-2000.  Although not involved with the initial installation or original build of the helideck I was responsible for the day to day RFFS and Operational requirements, equipment, crewing and training.  I also wrote SOPs etc for hospital elevated helidecks and surface level helipad operations (that appear to have been adopted/adapted by several other hospitals over the years).

If I can assist, I now run a business - Helicopter Support Services, specialising in helipad RFFS and ground support services for the UK helicopter industry.  I am also the fire training instructor for East & North Herts NHS Trust.  If this is the area of enquiry you are looking into you can contact me through the NHS Staff Directory, the NAFHO website or through the British Helicopter Advisory Board site.

Contact Paddy McManus, fire officer at Newcastle Hospitals they are currently installing a helipad on the roof.

Sorry not sure of his telephone numbers
