Can anyone show me a link to a "no fire exit" sign that would work with the BS style fire exit signs. i.e. a sign for a door that looks like it may lead to a place of safety, but doesn't.

Two designs:

I do remember once reading a long time ago that 'No exit' or 'No escape' signs could cause panic & that 'No admittance' or 'Private' should be used instead
-
I did think about that, but if I wanted out of a building a "private" sign wouldn't stop me and this doorway does look very much like it leads to safety, so I think there is a need to be very clear.
Also there is a big door next to it, that does lead to safety, so I don't think anyone would be too panicked. But I do appreciate the tip.
The second one is perfect - it kinda matches the rest while at the same time being obviously not a fire exit sign. I worried that they would just stick up a "No Fire Exit" text sign which might be misread.
-
Quite correct..."no exit" not a good idea.
The second link "No Escape" is much preferred in my opinion.
Many doors are marked as "Fire Exit" together with "private" or "staff only"!!!!!
Studies seem to show that signage plays little part in choice of escape routes but conflicting signage should surely be avoided.
-
So Phil, are you agreeing with my idea of marking it up with the second sign, given what I have said above?
-
I think the second sign is better as it does follow both Eropean principles - the use of graphics and the european safety colours. I reckon the door should also be red as well. Both are much better than some I have seen- a standard exit sign with a red diagonal line across it. Totally hopeless.
European safety colours:
Red- things you mustnt do
Blue - things you must do
Yellow/ orange - warnings
Green - safe conditions.

Yes Chris.

The reason I wanted an image is that I am worried that they would use a sign like the above. At first glance (in panic) one might just read the words "fire exit", see the green symbol and use the door.
-
Id always used NO WAY OUT so not using "fire" "exit" or "emergency" so as not to cause confusion,at one place they supplemented it with a standard no entry sign ,red circle with bar throuh etc.
I also confiscated one from a locked glass door that led into a canal that said "NONE FIRE EXIT" i found it quite amusing and its on the office door now.

I`ve got the "NO ESCAPE" sign on my door, unfortunately its on the inside!

The recommended symbol with International Standard application credentials is as follows:
The standard convention for prohibition signs, where possible is to use understood graphical symbols with the adoption of a negation circle and bar, i.e. same with no smoking / smoking permitted etc...
Copy and paste this link to see examples of prohibition signs, especially 8251 and 8024:

What about putting nothing on the door.
As it's Friday can someone tell me why does it say General Office on the private's door and Private Office on the general's door?
-
This is why Graphic Symbols are best....The difference being the size of their Privates normally expressed as Rank.

What about putting nothing on the door.
It looks like it leads to safety, you can see light through it, but it does not lead to safety, it leads you into a cage surrounded by cardboard.
So it is important that people don't go there in a fire.

We were told that a 'No fire exit' sign could be misread in the confusion and haste to escape or that the 'No' part might be obscured at the time.
Whilst sign 2 looks interesting, when necessary I have tended to like the standard image with the large raised hand (usually indicating 'no admittance' or 'no unauthorised access') with an appropriate text something like 'No way out'.
