Title: CO detector lifespan

Hello!

I have a question about CO alarms. CO detectors have average lifespan of about 5 years. Are these years of active use or years since manufacturing?
More precisely I am talking about detectors with electrochemical sensors (Kidde KN-COB-B).

Kidde CO alarms incorporate firmware that shuts down unit after 7 years; prior warning note is emitted in advance of this state arriving.
