Title: Door magnets used for security purposes in EMI homes
Post by: John Dragon on February 27, 2008, 08:14:34 PM
Anyone know if there is a British Standard covering door magnets holding doors shut (inc fire exit doors), interfaced to fire alarm to open only when alarm is sounding?
Most EMI homes have these fitted and a client has asked me if there is a BS covering them and I don't know!

No.... and this would be driven by client request to have certain doors locked, although the recommendation would be to release the doors on a fire activation for obvious reasons.

I believe you will find BS 7273-4:2007 -British Standard Code of practice for the operation of fire protection measures - Part 4: Actuation of release mechanisms for doors - is useful for you.
