Can anyone inform me if there is a minimum distance for mustering away from the building that has been evacuated due to a fire alarm?
-
I am sure most people would agree on one and a half times the height of the building as the distance away. You will need an assembly point controller adn a fire brigade liaison officer, one to muster the people the other to stay at the premises to speak to the FRS on arrival.
-
don't forget that you should be able to catch the clapham omnibus ie not in an enclosed yard

If building is Canary Wharf...where would that place my assembly point Jokar? We would need the Clapham omnibus to get there!!!!

Ahh, but Canada Tower is a phased evac building and therefore only a few need to come out. I thought a nice boat in the dock with a few drinks would be appropriate. They have evacuated the tower and the mass of bodies left no room for any attendance and if it collapsed the whole of canary Wharf would have been lost.
Sensibly for small to medium size building apply my first pot, for those larger ones as Phil has picked up on a sensible strategy needs to be adopted. My fault for not being clearer.

Fire is one thing, I know its not our job but even if Canary Wharf is on phased evacuation for fire it will still need a realistic total evacuation strategy for other incidents- I am sure that having been subject to a terrorist attack in the past this must figure in their planning at least.

Thank you all, One and a half times the height of the building as the distance away. As for being closed in, our building is u shaped and the boxed in does concern me as the proposed muster point is within the courtyard of the u shaped building.

So long as it is at the open end of the U and that you are not likely to be knocked down by traffic it should not be too much of a problem. Your U shape may help in another way- giving good supervision so that members of the public are not likely to sneak in unseen during the alarm.
