Post by: Benzerari on March 15, 2008, 05:14:53 PM
I have heard through one of my colleagues that BS5839 is reviewed and updated each five years, is that correct? and who are the main players to set up any new updates? and on what basis? I just would like to undrestand how things are done...

Thank you

Roll your right trouser leg up , and be careful with the cucumber , that should explain it for you , I am sure the boys will give you a enlightened response.
But seriously I think its high time in relation to all standards that an individual is 'Trade Tested'. The only way forward is to place training and responsibility with the individual. I have had the benefit of overseeing acceptance on behalf of a client , whose tenant fire system was sub contracted out some 6 times.

The guy on the ground didn't have a clue , and it turns out he was not even insured to do this work.

Why is it that you can as Joe Public buy a system over the counter and actually install, commission it etc , yet you cant wire additional sockets in your own house.

Then you get the old cherry when you are playing the game correctly , oh by the way the way BS are only recommendations (sound familiar)

I would like to see consultation debate when changes are to be made from a cross section of the community , I have met some good guys over the years that have been dismayed with the way the industry is going.

Personally (my opinion only) the standards need in areas to be totally black and white , I know life isn't but it is on the wish list.

I am now off down the pub to put the world to rights !
This is saturday night answer, I would prefer some interesting working day's one :)

I don't understand any of the points you are trying to make.
