Smoke detectors
Hi everyone, please help me to find out the solution. many thanks.
1. The application between ionization and optical smoke detectors
2. The perforance of both fixed temp and rate of temp rise fire detector,
compare and discuss their relationship and response time.
3. Discuss the important to maintain fault monitoring for the fire alarm system.

1. Optical detectors tend to be better at detecting smouldering fires or where thick black smoke could be generated. ionisation now somewhat of an outdated technology, not seen many new ionisation heads put in.

2. Performance of both generall very good. Fixed temp detectors are best in kitchens rather than rate of rise as steam from cooking may cause a rate of rise to activate (ie sudden difference in temp)

3. Very important to monitor faults, if you don't check the panel to see if any fault lights are showing how do you know your system is healthy?

Get yourself a copy of BS 5839 part 6 theres a whole load of discussion in there about this stuff.

We were all students once too.
