Title: testing of fire detection system
Post by: Mushy on March 17, 2008, 09:40:52 AM
Hi

I've seen a report lately that says that 10% of the fire detection system (smoke and heat) should be tested annually....why only 10%?

Thanks

British Standard 5839 Part 1, 2002 recommends 100% annually.  As a 6 month check on the battery is also needed, most companies do 50% every 6 months.  The previous version of 5839 recommended quarterly testing and therefore 25% quarterly is not uncommon.  10% annualy would be unacceptable and is probably a typo I would suggest.
