Title: Talking to myself again
Post by: Gel on November 26, 2003, 11:56:03 PM
:lol: well at least to get things rolling.
Often asked can I interconnect a Brand A smoke alarm to Brand X;
answer from all manufacturers is same; its NO :!:

In event of a fire & one didnt go off, lawyers would have a field day!

Obviously, manaufacturers have a commercial interest in persuading buyers to buy into their whole range, and there may be sound reasons for this. However, if someone interconnects items against the advice of the manufacturers concerned, then they had better ensure that the devices do work  together properly, or else they have only themselves to blame when the lawyers come knocking.

Gel, without naming firms, can you expand upon what items you are trying to connect? And any reasons given by the manufacturers for not doing so?
Regards

Most UK Fire Alrm manufactureres in my experience are able to provide components compatible with their competitors products.

They seem to become more enthusiastic when you talk about maintenance contracts too!
