Title: Spread of Flame paints/materials
Post by: andy_ on May 08, 2008, 11:58:57 AM
In the manufacture of shop interior fittings & panelling :

If you take class 1 rated MDF, and paint it with ordinary paint, would it still be considered class 1 rated for spread of flame?
If you take ordinary MDF, and paint it with a class 1 rated paint, would it be considered a class 1 rated product? (assuming the whole object is covered in paint)

Or is the only way to ensure class 1 spread of flame is use class 1 MDF and then use class 1 paint?

I have read back a few other topics on spread of flame, and would appreciate any comments on this, or possibly links to sites explaining what is or isn't appropriate to maintain ratings.

Thanks

The test would be carried out on the paint and the substrate.

If the data for the paint says that it gets Class 1 on MDF then bob's your uncle.

Be careful. lots of treatments are tested on calcium cilicate board so they would not be able to claim class 1 even when painted on to a class 1 board.
