Title: Suppliers for Fire Extinguishers
Post by: rb health and safety on May 12, 2008, 09:53:01 PM
Can anyone suggest good suppliers for extinguishers.  We service and maintain extinguishers and currently use TG.  Any other ideas?

Below a large list - get their literature before deciding as most firms webs are out of date & don't truly represent their capability. If your margins allow go for UK, German or US stuff marked with a *

If you want Kitemarked Stuff:

*Saffire - http://www.saffire.co.uk/
*Jactone  - http://www.jactone.co.uk/
Moyne Roberts - http://www.moyneroberts.com/
*UK Fire/Firemaster - http://www.ukfire.co.uk/
*Gloria - http://www.gloria.co.uk (owned by UTC like TG is)
*Firemark (FPS Bristol) - http://www.firemarkext.co.uk/
*Total (Express Fire) - http://www.xpressfire.co.uk/
*Amerex - http://www.amerexfire.co.uk/
Ace Fire/Jewel Products - http://www.actfire.co.uk/
LIFECO - http://www.lifeco-uk.com/
*P J Fire - http://www.pjfire.co.uk/ (CO2 manufacture & refurb only at the moment, full BS range to follow)

Non kitemarked:

Tradex - http://www.tradextinguishers.co.uk/index2.html
Firex Europe - http://www.firex.org.uk/
ECS Midlands - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ecsmidlands/
Ex-celsius - http://www.firesafetysupplies.co.uk/
Commander/Crusader - http://www.xpressfire.co.uk/

Spares, etc:
Express Fire - http://www.xpressfire.co.uk/
Ace Fire/Jewel Products http://www.actfire.co.uk/
Cherry Parts - http://www.cherry-parts.co.uk/
Fire & Safety - http://www.firebusters.org.uk/

Also seen in the UK in the past or at present but who I can't  identify the UK importer:
ANAF - http://www.anaf.biz/
Exxmon - http://www.exmon.es/
Eversafe - http://www.eversafe.net/ (imported by UK fire in the past)
SRI - http://www.sri.com.my/ (seen recently, no clue who imports)

Anthony,
ANAF and SRI both used UK companies - including Cuerdale Fire and Moyne Roberts respectively in the past, as their distributors. Not seen either Naff nor SRI for a good while in the UK although they may still exist. Neither are missed.
(Cuerdale were bought out by Walker Fire (Moyne))

rb,

Chat to other fire firms for recommendations as reliability is just as important as cost!

Don't start supplying the crusader/commander stuff whatever you do, unless you want to field awkward questions from customers about why the handles come off in their hand when trying to pick one up!
How do these things pass any sort of quality control?

ANAF's small powders are still imported for the leisure market - you see them on boat, caravan & car parts websites. Jactone also sell ANAF powders as a budget range & First Alert have own branded ANAF powders for the domestic client.

My list is just that - a list of what's about - but some items I wouldn't like to use!

I prefer any kite marked stuff made in the US, UK or Germany, but if you are a small user you may find margins pushing you to the CE only stuff - I've not had too many problems with it, but we don't shift many extinguishers. Over the years I've found more defects in non kite-marked stuff though.

Don't think my big Geordie marrer awer in Horden will be too chuffed with that analysis. :/

Whoops!

I'm allowed to be wrong sometimes!

It goes to show that like UTC you can get good build quality from the Far East (unless they are part of UTC, seems everyone is these days!)

No worries AB

I only posted because Barry (honourable representative of aforementioned company) was sat in my office yesterday having a brew while I was reading your post.

It's that sods law thing again :)

One thing I did notice however. Our North Eastern brethren do tend to use an awful lot of expletives when something rattles their cage. :O

All was well. Another coffee and a ciggy and he was at peace with the world again.

The link for PJ Fire above is a domain name registered to BT. Has anyone got the contact details of PJ Fire please?

I do wish they'd put a web site up, even just a single page to be going on with. Although they are very busy with work & expanding the range of stuff they do.
