Some board members expressed the opinion in another thread that we (and especially small business men - ie men/women running small businesses not business men who are vertically challenged) are over regulated by government.
Given the choice which pieces of legislation would you repeal/revoke/amend to make your life easier and more pleasurable?
-
Again I would remind readers that as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order repealled dozens of historical Acts of Parliament, the number of pieces of legislation was reduced by its introduction.

You don't have to remind me, Chris, I'm an enforcer of it.

The biggest help to a businessman would be for the government to stop using him as an unpaid tax collector i.e. VAT, income tax, sick pay, maternity pay, national insurance etc. etc etc - ad infinitum.
Not only does the government expect him to collect all these taxes for free but he is also held responsible for any mistakes, not only by restitution but by punishment.
My advice to anyone starting a business is to remember that the government has no respect for you and will try to 'have one over on you' whenever they can - so always return the compliment if you ever get the chance!

I would like to suggest the introduction of new legislation.
Every Monday morning at 1000am, when every business is carrying out the weekly user check of their fire alarm systems, an MP, any MP, should be taken out to the front of Westminster and given a public flogging, this to be witnessed by all of his fellow oxygen wasters and between each lash to repeat the words "I am here to serve the public"
I know that there may well be a lot of opposition to this, not from the public, but from the MPs themselves, but they will soon get used to it. After all we have to get used to the bum legislation they produce.
Is this the sort of response to this post you were looking for Big A or have I picked it up wrong?

Yes indeed. I'll tell my mate, Boris. It may be easier than banning booze on the underground.
