Title: Safety Alert-Kidde Extinguishers
Post by: wallace317 on July 30, 2008, 03:39:53 AM
Hello all,
Although there is no recall on them yet, I wanted to let everyone know about an issue I witnessed personally. I'm not sure if they sell these inthe UK, but the Kidde 5lb. ABC extinguishers with an aluminum valve and aluminum cylinder that are now being made in Mexico have had some issues with the cylinder integrity.

I was refilling one, and after tightening it only hand tight and repressurizing it, a crack formed in the neck of the cylinder and it started leaking, at which point I quickly emptied it again. I have never seen this before, even with similar US-made models. I know Kidde has a bad reputation, and I don't regard them too highly, but since this is a potential safety issue, I though everyone should be aware of it.

Any thoughts please post.

In Europe these are not available, and this is primarily a UK board; ones here & EC are manufactured by company they acquired some years ago ie GLORIA; they have an execllent quality reputation, thanks to their German heritage.
