Hi folks

Some of you may be aware that BRE carried out a consultation exercise last year to hear from fire safety and building professionals what they thought needed changing in Part B of the Building Regs.

ODPM have today published a Consultation paper on proposed changes to Part B of the Building Regulations

Can any one advise why all the references to disabled have been deleted from the draft?

They havent. There's lots more. Check out the section titled Inclusive Design.

It's interesting that schools have now been removed from the draft Part B and consultees are informed that this is now covered by Building Bulletin 100 and are asked their views as to whether BB100 provides sufficient guidance. Unfortunately BB100 has not been published and has yet to go out for formal consultation!

Have you seen a copy Colin?

I wonder whether they are relenting on the withdrawal of BB7.

It is not what is written in the guidance that I am most concerned about it is the enforcers.
I have just visited a new health and community centre that is part of an old school building. The premises are multi occupied by various community groups. The means of escape from the health centre is just ok but  forms an L shape around another part of the building. When I originally dealt with the premises I asked what was on the other side of the wall and was told that is nothing to do with us!!!! The meeting today was to decide how to provide a means of escape from the other building as the original route through the health centre part had been bricked up. This Health Centre has been passed by Building Control and presumably the Fire Service during statutory consultation.
The owner of the school is also the Building Control Authority
