Title: Fire Risk Assessment
Post by: Geoff on August 26, 2008, 12:39:23 PM
Hi all,

If no body objects I am on the scrounge!

My boss has decided that all our fire risk assessment documentation has to be reviewed as he for some reason no longer likes the format we have been using.  I haven't been using things like PAS 79 (I don't like it much) as I had a bespoke spreadsheet format I used, but this is no longer flavour of the month so if any of you are willing to share any of the formats you use I would be most grateful!

Many thanks in anticipation.

What is your business? Why does you boss want to change? Does the boss know what he wants because of his knowledge of RAs?  What are the current RAs like? What format does he want? Does he want compliance with the Order standard?

We are a Housing Association and he wants to change because he does not like the way it looks when printed!
My boss is the H&S Manager and is very familiar with risk assessments and did the FRAs before I joined the company.  The existing format is Excel based (which causes the printing difficulties as border lines keep disappearing).  Not fully sure what format he wants but probably a Word based one so he can have photographs inserted into it.  And yes he does want it to comply with the Order (which the original one does anyway).

Are these common areas risk assessments for flats or full risk assessments for HMOs or care homes? WHY?

I dont mind helping you out if I can but you will appreciate all of us whose living is through risk assessments will be a little guarded - we developed our system over several years through trial and error, market research and midnight oil.

They are risk assessments for flats, HMOs, care homes, keyworker accommodation, assisted living schemes, supported housing, student accommodation, etc.

Firstly please accept my apologies, I should have phrased my request a little differently as it's tone does come across as presumptuos! I do realise the work that all of you who have developed your own systems will have put in, as I've been working on the system I currently use for the last 18 months.  I didn't expect or even want someone to hand over their complete system as that would not be fair, as I've not put any effort into the work it has taken to develop.  I suppose I was hoping for some form of basic layout that I could work on and take further.

Anyway I've been instructed to come up with something else so any help would be most appreciated.

The problem you have here is PAS 79 will guide you but that puts you back to square one again !!

This previous thread spoke of formats for risk assessments and our member PhilB offered to share these with the forum, and he did willingly and also on another thread (which i cant find just now) but worth an email to Mr B i'd wager he would be happy to share....worth an ask
